New year, new doctor–Oakwood Women’s Centre welcomes Melia Lucero MD
If you’ve made a New Year’s resolution to focus on your health, you should make an appointment with Melia Lucero MD. She has joined our Round Rock obgyns as a physician with significant experience in developing community healthcare. “At Oakwood Women’s Centre, I plan to continue to provide care to the community that I love and to ensure that women stay safe and healthy.” She embraces a philosophy of preventive medicine and strives to help women who visit our Round Rock obgyns take time for self-care.
Melia Lucero MD studied at the University of New Mexico
Melia Lucero MD earned her Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, where she also completed medical school. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center and won the Outstanding Medical Student Teacher Award.
Throughout her medical education at the University of New Mexico, Dr. Lucero became familiar with many types of reproductive health issues affecting women. She also realized the importance of helping patients seek balance in their physical and psychological health.
Dr. Lucero is passionate about community healthcare
After her residency, Melia Lucero MD was hired by Baylor Scott & White Health to create and chair the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at a small community hospital in Marble Falls, Texas. Her belief in the importance of making healthcare available to all led to her involvement in healthcare missions to Central America through her church.
Dr. Lucero is excited to join our Round Rock obgyns. She says, “People are happy to be here and happy to help patients. They all have good attitudes and are positive. It makes going to work enjoyable every day.” She looks forward to spending time with women in the Round Rock community and making a difference in their lives.
When she is not working, Dr. Lucero spends time with her family, watching her children’s sporting events and relaxing in her backyard. She also enjoys baking. Her specialty is dark chocolate oatmeal cookies. Dr. Lucero speaks conversational Spanish.
